Spring Time Updates
After promising myself when I finished filming for 5 months that I would dedicate more time to sharing my work online – I’ve accidentally entered a blissful period of being more offline than ever.
Whilst easy to chastise myself for being inconsistent – truly I don’t know how my friends do it so well, it’s a skill in itself! The reasons why are pretty cool and I should be grateful as all my buses have arrived at once…!
Probing Questions
I couldn’t resist filming myself as I had the itch, so I made a short film with my writing partner in crime Jac Clinch, which we co-directed and it went superbly. We are both so excited to share it.
It was an experiment as I had wanted to work with a few friends I made on Shakespeare and Hathaway, and they were brilliant. It was joyous and exhausting in equal measure and the vibes were IMMACULATE.
D-Horror BFI Feature Film Development Scheme
I then immediately started on Module 1 of D-Horror which was one of the most creatively nourishing experiences I’ve ever had. The cohort was split into two rooms, and whilst it was sad we didn’t get to cross pollinate more, the chemistry of our group was off the chaaaaarts. The talent oozing out of everyone, and experience and skill. I couldn’t quite believe I was amongst such brilliant people, I really savour every second with them and I can’t wait to get back in a room with them.
The next step now is writing a 60-70 step outline of the feature film which I’m JUST ABOUT TO SUBMIT AS I’VE MANAGED TO BASH IT OUT THIS WEEK!!! YEAH BOYYYYYYYYYYYYY! Both Ben and I are writing feature films at the minute so the walls (and vibes) of our home looks like this.

Writer’s Room
Started a writers room which holds huge meaning to mean, not least cos it’s actually something all my siblings both UK, Kazakh-French watched and loved so I have finaaaaally earnt their respect. It’s been a very fun process. Once I submit the step outline, I’m gunna focus on my redraft work for thissssss!
All in all, I’ve spent a lot of time in my pants with a cat on my lap, furiously typing or staring at a wall of cards whilst furrowing my brow so truly – I am living the dream right now. 11 year old me is so excited.
When I was 11 or so, I watched Legally Blonde. It was before laptops were properly a ‘thing’ but I was so taken with Elle. I inherited my dad’s old work laptop (my dad has always LOVED tech). I didn’t have any school work to do or any actual work at all, but I just loved looking at Elle in full flow, tip tapping away at her laptop. I knew I didn’t want to be a lawyer, but I did like tiptapping away on a laptop.
Cut to now: I literally still get that same feeling of wonder, excitement, satisfaction and the pitter patter of butterflies whenever I open my laptop and starting clacking away. Proper childish gleeeeeeeeeeeee.
Ellipsis
This week I just shot a gorgeous BFI horror short ‘Ellipsis’ in the Dark Peaks directed by Owain Paciuszko, and Jess Gardner - producer extraordinaire (and my wife), and also Amber James (who coincidentally is also my wife). Great vibes. Working with your friends (and your wives) really is the best.
